Looking for a refreshing spring outing filled with beauty, history, and great company? We’ve got the perfect opportunity. Join us for a delightful Filoli Field Trip on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 9:00AM to 1:00PM. Tailored specifically for adults ages 55 and over, this free trip offers a relaxing and enriching day exploring one of the Bay Area’s most breathtaking landmarks—Filoli Historic House and Garden
Though the field trip is currently full, don’t worry—you can still add your name to the waitlist by visiting the San Carlos Library or emailing zamudio@smcl.org. Openings may become available, and we’d love to include as many community members as possible in this special day.
What’s Filoli?
Nestled in Woodside, just a short drive from San Carlos, Filoli is a nationally recognized historic estate known for its incredible formal gardens, stunning Georgian-style home, and serene natural beauty. The property, which dates back to the early 20th century, offers visitors a window into California’s elegant past—where gardens bloom year-round and every path leads to a story.
Whether you’re a garden lover, history enthusiast, or simply in need of a day surrounded by beauty, this trip to Filoli promises to be an unforgettable experience.
What’s Included
This field trip has been thoughtfully organized to make the day enjoyable and worry-free. Free transportation will be provided from the San Carlos Library to Filoli and back. When we arrive at the estate, we’ll be greeted by a friendly Filoli volunteer, who will share a short oral history of the property to help set the stage for your visit.
From there, you’ll have two hours to explore the grounds, gift shop, and historic home at your own pace. For those who would like a more in-depth experience, an optional 60-minute docent-led tour of the gardens will begin at 10:30 AM. This is a wonderful way to learn more about the plants, design, and stories that make Filoli such a special place.
After exploring, we’ll board the bus back to the San Carlos Library, where you’ll receive a delicious boxed lunch—yours to enjoy in the library’s outdoor spaces or to take home and savor later. It’s the perfect ending to a beautiful day.
Full Schedule for the Day
To help you plan, here’s the tentative schedule:

9:00 AM – Meet at the San Carlos Library to board the bus

9:15 AM – Bus departs the library

9:50 AM – Arrive at Filoli

10:00 AM – Enjoy a short introduction from a Filoli docent

10:30 AM – Optional 60-minute docent-led garden tour begins

12:30 PM – Depart Filoli and return to San Carlos Library

1:00 PM – Pick up your boxed lunch and relax
