What is the San Carlos Downtown Plan?
Well, the City of San Carlos CA is showing its age a bit and not to spread rumors, but the City is a little vain and it decided it’s time for a little nip and tuck. The question is what to nip and what to tuck? Those little decisions can have a big impact on how one looks in the future. It’s a precarious balance not often achieved by most in Hollywood, so the City wants to take its time and get lots of input before going under the knife!
Yes, the City of San Carlos CA is trying to determine the future of Downtown San Carlos. The City defines Downtown San Carlos as Laurel Street, El Camino Real, and the cross streets from Holly Street to Greenwood Avenue. So, this is not a complete body nip and tuck, it’s limited to the downtown areas, so it’s more of a Brazilian Butt Lift!
Let’s be honest, some of the areas around Laurel Street and El Camino are looking a bit tired, then Covid also introduced parklets plus street closures into the mix. All of these things need to be considered as the City ponders its future look. This is all part of the new vision for Laurel Street and other nearby areas. The San Carlos CA City Council named this project the “Downtown Specific Plan” instead of the San Carlos Butt Lift! Go figure! Anyway, this San Carlos downtown revisioning process began in March 2022 and should wrap up in Spring of 2024 just in time for bathing suit season.
Downtown Advisory Committee (DTAC)
So, the San Carlos City Council appointed a committee of 19 people to lead the program. According to the City, the committee will do the following:
- reviewing information,
- providing feedback on topics,
- soliciting participation by the larger community, and
- represent specific interests of the community.
Below is a drawing provided by the City giving some brief information about some areas under consideration for the nip and tuck and what they consider to be downtown.
The committee is hosting a third event soon. It’s an Open House on Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM. They will serve coffee and pastries while you learn about the emerging concepts for the San Carlos Downtown and share your feedback and ideas with them. This is an in-person event held at the San Carlos Library at 610 Elm Street, 2nd Floor, Community Room.
So, if you care about what the San Carlos downtown will look like, get involved, attend the meeting and share your thoughts on what the downtown should look like to the committee. However, be gentle and courteous when critiquing its current looks, age will catch up with all of us someday too!
No worries San Carlos – you’re going to look fabulous!!!
