IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild™ is not your typical concert series. It reimagines the classical music experience by removing the traditional walls of a concert hall and replacing them with some of America’s most breathtaking outdoor settings. Founded by classical pianist Hunter Noack, the series celebrates the interplay between landscape and sound, inviting audiences to listen to live music while wandering freely through natural environments. Guests wear wireless headphones, creating an immersive experience that fosters a connection with the music, nature, and with one another.
On May 19 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, Filoli’s lush gardens and scenic Meadow will transform into a living concert hall as part of this groundbreaking series. This setting, a jewel of the Bay Area nestled in Woodside, California, offers the perfect harmony of curated elegance and wild natural beauty. With its historic house, sweeping lawns, and riot of floral color, Filoli provides an unforgettable backdrop for an unforgettable evening.
About IN A LANDSCAPE
Started in 2016, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild™ was born from a simple yet profound idea: that music, like nature, is more deeply felt when we’re free to experience it physically and emotionally. Instead of rows of velvet seats and concert etiquette, Noack and his team invite audiences to roam—through forests, meadows, coastlines, and, in this case, Filoli’s glorious gardens.
Each audience member receives a pair of high-quality wireless headphones that carry the live music directly to their ears. This innovation allows for the freedom to explore and absorb the environment without missing a single note. Whether you’re reclining under a tree, walking beside a rose-lined path, or gazing at the golden hills beyond, the music becomes a personal soundtrack to your surroundings.
The repertoire ranges from classical standards to contemporary compositions, sometimes even blending in poetry and storytelling. At the center of it all is Noack’s Steinway piano, which is specially transported and tuned for each performance.
