Gardening and Mental Health: Growing Wellness From the Ground Up at San Carlos Library

So many of us feel better the moment we step outside. This session explores the why behind that feeling and offers practical, garden‑level habits you can take home. We’ll connect evidence‑informed ideas with real tools—soil between fingers, mindful breath, and simple weekly routines. You don’t need a big yard; a balcony or a few pots will do. The aim is less overwhelm, more grounding.

Why this session works

We’ll mix talk with doing. Expect to handle a few plants, practice an easy grounding exercise, and leave with a starter routine that fits your space and energy. Think approachable wellness, not perfection—your garden is allowed to be alive and a little wild.

Perfect for

  • Adults curious about the mental health benefits of gardening.
  • Beginners building a small container garden or refreshing one that stalled.
  • Anyone craving calmer routines and a reason to close the laptop on weekends.
  • Neighbors 55+ looking for low‑impact, meaningful activity.

How the hour flows

We’ll kick off with a breezy intro, then move into guided activities. Expect a friendly pace, room for questions, and zero pop quizzes. The tone is practical, welcoming, and a little bit nerdy in the best way.

On-site details

We’ll meet inside San Carlos Library. Seating is first‑come and there’s time for questions at the end. If you’re managing mobility or sensory needs, speak with staff when you arrive so we can make the space more comfortable.
