Dance/Movement Therapy Support Group at Art Bias: A Journey Toward Healing Through Movement

In today’s fast-paced world, finding a safe and supportive space to process emotions and reconnect with yourself can be transformative. The Dance/Movement Therapy Support Group at Art Bias offers exactly that—a unique opportunity to explore your inner world through movement, creativity, and guided therapeutic practice. Hosted at Art Bias, this four-week program invites participants to step into a healing environment where expression goes beyond words.

Dance/Movement Therapy Support Group at Art Bias: A Journey Toward Healing Through Movement

A Creative Path to Emotional Expression

This 4-week, 75-minute dance/movement therapy group is designed to help individuals express and explore their emotions, thoughts, feelings, and sensations in a supportive and structured setting. Unlike traditional talk therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy uses the body as a primary tool for communication and healing.

No dance experience is required to participate. The group welcomes individuals of all backgrounds and abilities, emphasizing that movement is a natural and personal form of expression. Whether your movements are small and subtle or expansive and energetic, each gesture becomes part of your unique story.

Program Schedule

Participants will meet once a week for four consecutive Tuesdays:

  • Tuesday, April 7 from 6:30 – 7:45 PM
  • Tuesday, April 14 from 6:30 – 7:45 PM
  • Tuesday, April 21 from 6:30 – 7:45 PM
  • Tuesday, April 28 from 6:30 – 7:45 PM

Each session is thoughtfully structured to provide consistency while allowing space for creativity and personal exploration.

Guided by an Experienced Facilitator

The group is led by Nathaniel Silveira-Pyzik, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Board-Certified Dance/Movement Therapist with a private practice in San Carlos, California. With extensive experience working with adults, teens, and couples, Nathaniel brings a compassionate and knowledgeable approach to each session.

Throughout the program, he will guide participants through a sequence of warm-up exercises, theme development, and closure. This structure creates a safe container where therapeutic content and creative processes can naturally emerge. Participants will learn guided movements while also being encouraged to discover and develop their own authentic ways of moving.

What to Expect in Each Session

Each 75-minute session is designed to balance movement, reflection, and connection. Participants can expect:

  • A gentle warm-up to prepare the body and mind
  • Guided movement exercises to explore specific themes
  • Opportunities to create and express authentic movement
  • Time for self-reflection and personal insight
  • Movement sharing within the group
  • Verbal processing to integrate the experience

All movements can be adapted to accommodate physical impairments or disabilities, ensuring that everyone can participate comfortably and safely. The emphasis is not on performance but on personal expression and growth.

A Safe and Supportive Environment

One of the core principles of this group is creating a safe, non-judgmental space. Participants are asked to respect each other’s contributions and maintain confidentiality. This mutual respect fosters trust and allows individuals to explore vulnerable emotions without fear of criticism.

The group is intentionally kept small, with only 8–10 participants per session. This intimate setting encourages deeper connections and ensures that each participant receives attention and support throughout the process.

Benefits of Dance/Movement Therapy

Engaging in dance/movement therapy can offer a wide range of benefits that extend beyond the sessions themselves. Participants may experience:

  • Stress relief and relaxation
  • Increased mind–body awareness
  • Improved emotional regulation
  • A sense of interconnectedness with others
  • Support in navigating life transitions
  • Enhanced overall wellness

By integrating movement with therapeutic techniques, participants can access emotions that may be difficult to articulate verbally. This holistic approach supports both mental and physical well-being.

Accessibility and Registration

In an effort to make this valuable experience accessible to as many people as possible, the class is offered free of charge. This commitment to accessibility reflects the program’s mission to support community wellness and mental health.

However, due to limited space, participants are encouraged to register in advance and cancel promptly if they are unable to attend. This ensures that others on the waiting list have the opportunity to participate.

To reserve your spot in the group, you can sign up online or contact Nathaniel directly via email at info@nathanielsilveirapyziklpcc.com or by phone at 650-762-8741.

About the Facilitator

Nathaniel Silveira-Pyzik is deeply committed to helping individuals reconnect with themselves through creative, body-based approaches. As a member of the American Dance Therapy Association, he integrates evidence-based practices with artistic expression.

In 2022, Nathaniel facilitated “Move & Release,” a six-week class at Yoga Health Center in collaboration with Ziru Dance Company and One Life Counseling Center. His work continues to highlight the transformative power of movement in promoting mental health, regulating the nervous system, and supporting trauma healing.
