About the Event

Figure Drawing at Art Bias is part of a beloved monthly series organized by artist Matthew Lipson, who curates each session to provide a welcoming and productive environment for everyone in attendance. The sessions are held on the fourth Thursday of each month, building a sense of continuity and artistic growth for those who attend regularly.

This is a registration-only event, limited to just 12 attendees. The smaller group size ensures each participant has ample space to work and can enjoy an uninterrupted drawing experience. Early registration is highly recommended, as spots tend to fill up quickly.

Artists are required to bring their own supplies, and for health and safety reasons, only dry and non-toxic materials are permitted. Whether your medium of choice is charcoal, graphite, or colored pencil, you’re encouraged to bring whatever tools allow you to create comfortably and respectfully in a shared space.

If you have any questions about the event or the materials allowed, you’re welcome to reach out directly to Matthew at rwclifedrawing@gmail.com. You can also follow the group on Instagram (@rwc_life_drawing) or Facebook (RWC Life Drawing) for updates, event photos, and examples of artwork created during past sessions.

Why Figure Drawing?

Figure drawing has been a cornerstone of artistic training for centuries. Capturing the nuances of the human body enhances an artist’s understanding of proportion, anatomy, light, and form. It’s an essential discipline for developing a well-rounded artistic foundation, but it’s also a meditative and rewarding activity on its own.

These sessions at Art Bias offer a unique opportunity to practice in a supportive, communal setting. Whether you’re developing a portfolio, working on technical skill, or simply looking to spend a few peaceful hours immersed in creative work, Figure Drawing at Art Bias is the perfect venue.

The Venue: Art Bias

Art Bias, located at 1700 Industrial Road in San Carlos, is much more than just a venue—it’s a thriving community for artists. With a mission to support the creative process and foster a vibrant network of creators, Art Bias provides studio spaces, exhibitions, professional development, and of course, community events like this one.

Studio 114, where the figure drawing sessions are held, is a well-equipped, light-filled space designed to make artists feel at home. The location is accessible, and parking is available both at Art Bias and on surrounding streets, making it convenient for attendees traveling from across the Bay Area.

The Art Bias environment fosters an atmosphere of learning, sharing, and support. The space is filled with the energy of creative minds, and attendees often find themselves inspired not just by the models or their own work, but by the presence of others creating alongside them.

A Note on Community and Creativity

Events like Figure Drawing at Art Bias aren’t just about improving your drawing skills—they’re about connecting with others who share your passion for art. The consistent monthly schedule helps build a sense of community, where returning participants can witness each other’s growth and welcome new members into the fold.

This gathering is a celebration of both the individual and collective creative spirit. There’s something profoundly inspiring about being in a room where everyone is focused, pencils moving in quiet rhythm, eyes locked onto the model, completely in the moment.
