Spring is in full swing, and what better way to celebrate the season than with some colorful, hands-on creativity? Join us for a delightful afternoon of crafting at the San Carlos Library on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, for Crafternoon: Craft Stick “Flower Pots.”
Whether you’re an experienced young artist or just looking for a fun and relaxing way to unwind after school, Crafternoon is the perfect place to explore your imagination and enjoy creative play. This week’s project is all about flowers that never fade—using simple craft supplies like sticks, paper, and glue to create flower pots that are bright, cheerful, and completely handmade.
Crafternoon is a weekly after-school art program designed to give kids a fun, low-pressure environment where they can create, explore, and have fun with a variety of materials. Each session offers something new—sometimes we highlight a featured artist, sometimes we explore a cultural celebration, and other times we let kids dive into free-form art exploration.
No matter the theme, Crafternoon is always about encouraging creativity, trying new things, and making space for artistic expression.
This week, we’re bringing out the craft sticks, colorful paper, markers, and glue for a project that’s perfect for spring—and for those who love flowers but might not love the mess of soil and watering cans.
Can sticks and paper create flowers we can enjoy all year? Absolutely!
At this Thursday’s Crafternoon, kids will get the chance to build their own miniature flower pots using craft sticks for the pot base and bright paper flowers for the blooms. This project is easy enough for young children to enjoy, but open-ended enough for older kids to get extra creative with their designs.
Participants will have access to a wide variety of crafting supplies to decorate their flower pots, including:
Craft sticks (plain and colored)
Bright construction paper
Foam shapes
Pom-poms and stickers
Markers, crayons, and washi tape
Glue and child-safe scissors
Once the flower pots are assembled, kids can use their paper flowers to decorate the pot however they like. From tulips to daisies, every creation is a chance to explore color, pattern, and imagination.
And the best part? These flowers will never wilt!
We know that school can be demanding, and sometimes what kids need most at the end of the day is a little time to decompress, express themselves, and make something with their hands. That’s where Crafternoon comes in.
This program is designed to be relaxing, playful, and judgment-free. There’s no “right” or “wrong” way to make a craft stick flower pot—just your way. Kids can follow along with an example or completely do their own thing. The emphasis is on creativity, not perfection.
Crafternoon is a great opportunity for kids to:
Build confidence through creative expression
Practice fine motor skills
Learn about shapes, colors, and design
Spend time in a safe, supportive community space
Take a break from screens and structured learning
Whether your child is a budding artist or just looking to try something new, they’re welcome at Crafternoon.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to stay, watch, or even participate! Crafting together can be a wonderful bonding experience and gives families a chance to connect in a fun, relaxed setting. Plus, you’ll love seeing your child’s face light up when they show you their finished flower pot creation.
No prior experience or special skills are needed—just bring your imagination and get ready to have some fun.
