Twenty-two racks of pork ribs. Thirty-eight pounds of brisket. About 120 hungry guests.
On Saturday, September 19, the boots and blue jeans come out again as the Friends of the San Carlos Adult Community Center host Boots, Blue Jeans & BBQ, an evening of food, country-western music, dancing and a little good-natured cowboy flair, all in support of the Adult Community Center.
The event runs from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the ACC, 601 Chestnut Street, and organizers expect around 120 people. Tickets are currently listed at $75.
There will be ribs and brisket prepared this year by Capelo’s BBQ, all the fixings, dessert and a vegetarian option. There’s also a no-host bar, a photo booth and music from DJ Este’, followed by line and swing dancing.
Bring Your Boots, or Just Bring Yourself
Most attendees are expected to be people who already know the ACC, together with family and friends, but the evening is open to adults who simply want to support the center.
That may make September 19 an especially easy way to become acquainted with the ACC if you have never been inside.

San Carlos Has Been Doing This BBQ Thing for a While
The first Boots, Blue Jeans & BBQ event took place in October 2016. More than 100 people attended that gathering, which included food, conversation and line dancing. The fundraiser helped the Friends work toward a $50,000 goal supporting lunch programming, classes and activities at the ACC.
In 2021, during the pandemic-era, they modified the event into something called "Ribs on the Run", a “drive up” event where supporters picked up rib dinners rather than staying for a sit-down fundraiser.
More recently, last year’s Boots, Blue Jeans & BBQ fundraiser did not happen because the ACC’s kitchen was undergoing renovations. With that work now completed, the event is returning this year, 2026.
ACC Recognized as California's Best Senior Center
The Friends have supported the ACC since 1992, helping fund programs, services and facility improvements for older adults.
And if you still picture a “senior center” as a quiet place with little going on, the ACC may surprise you. Its calendar includes exercise and dance classes, billiards, ping pong, mah jong, card games, discussion groups, field trips, lunches and special events.
Earlier this year, the ACC also received statewide recognition with the “Center of It All” Award from the California Parks and Recreation, an honor the City described as recognizing it as California’s best senior center.
