One of the most valuable parts of the workshop will be learning what succulents need before they are planted. Janice will discuss important pre-planting considerations, including the environment and soil.
Understanding the conditions where your succulents will live is essential. Factors such as sunlight, temperature, drainage, and moisture can influence the health of these plants. Choosing an appropriate growing medium is equally important because succulents generally require soil that provides good drainage.
Participants will also learn about basic design principles that can make a succulent container look more polished and visually appealing.

Meet Master Gardener Janice Moody
Leading the workshop is Janice Moody, whose connection to horticulture began early in life. Janice grew up on a nursery that her family established in Half Moon Bay in the early 1960s, giving her a lifelong connection to plants and gardening.
Although she studied Dietetics at UC Davis, her passion for horticulture remained strong throughout her life. After exploring different careers and taking on many roles over the years, Janice found her true calling when she became a UC Master Gardener in 2010.
In 2016, she founded Seascapes Succulent Nursery and Garden Design in Half Moon Bay, allowing her to combine her extensive gardening knowledge with her passion for working outdoors.
Janice describes herself as a “jack of many trades, but a Master of only one—gardening.” Her enthusiasm for horticulture extends beyond growing plants; she also enjoys sharing her knowledge and helping others discover the rewards of gardening.
A Creative Morning for Garden Lovers
Whether you are an experienced gardener or someone who is simply curious about succulents, “Succulent Container Gardening – From Funky to Fab!” offers an opportunity to learn something new, get creative, and connect with fellow plant enthusiasts.
