As part of the San Carlos Week of the Family, Community Service Saturday is a day dedicated to giving back and strengthening the bonds within our community. Join your neighbors and friends for a meaningful day of service and connection, embracing the spirit of helping one another and making San Carlos a better place for everyone.
Community Service Saturday offers a variety of volunteer opportunities suitable for all ages. Whether you’re a family, an individual, or part of a group, there are plenty of ways to participate. Here are the events included:
San Carlos Week of the Family Critical Items
Bring you used eyeglasses to drop-off boxes at Week of the Family events. If you can’t drop them off on this day see other convenient locations at www.sancarloslions.org or call 650-597-1777.
We will be collecting canned food and packaged food to help fill our winter pantry. No glass please. Drop these off at any Community Service Saturday location.
Come help with the care of our living campus at Mariposa Upper Elementary and Tierra Linda Middle School! Tasks may include weeding, pruning, planting, and much more! No green thumb required, but bring your water bottle and work gloves. All events will have garden tasks for ages 5+.
The popular Hug-a-Book program, sponsored by the San Carlos Kiwanis Club, is asking for donations of new or gently used books for early elementary age children. Kiwanis Club members take turns reading in SCSD classrooms and then donate the books to the classrooms and school libraries.
Make valentines cards for residents of the San Carlos Elms, or make them for your family and friends! We have plenty of art supplies or bring your own!
The Carlmont Key Club is hosting a painting party where participants can decorate 100 rocks with messages of kindness and compassion, with all supplies pre-prepped for creativity to flow. Finished masterpieces will be donated to the Youth Center’s rock garden, and attendees can also create a rock to take home!
Bring gently used or new warm clothes, blankets, and accessories to donate and help us keep our community cozy this winter. Kids and families can participate in creating calming jars—one to take home and one to gift to a child in a local school. These calming jars, filled with glitter and calming colors, are perfect tools to help kids relax and refocus. We’ll provide all the materials, so just bring your creativity and a giving spirit! Enjoy light snacks, music, and the chance to connect with other families while giving back.
Please help local low-income children served by Learning Home Volunteers. Donate new (or almost new) books, puzzles and learning toys (not stuffies) for 2-5 year-olds.
Join the Friends of the San Carlos Dog Park to create durable, handmade dog toys for local rescue shelters by braiding fleece fabric and repurposing old materials for sustainability. Volunteers will craft toys in various sizes to suit all breeds, bringing joy and comfort to shelter dogs. Woof!
