Be Sensitive, Be Brave: For Mental Health (BSBB) Teens Workshop
Empower Yourself: “Be Sensitive, Be Brave” Mental Health Training in San Carlos
Mental health is a conversation more people are starting to have — and for good reason. Between the pressure of school, friendships, family, and everything else happening in the world, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. But imagine what a difference it would make if more people knew how to notice when someone was struggling, and felt confident enough to step in with kindness. That’s exactly the mission behind Be Sensitive, Be Brave: For Mental Health, a special training workshop coming to San Carlos.
This 2-hour in-person session is designed especially for high school students, grades 9–12. It’s a chance to build skills that matter far beyond the classroom: recognizing the signs of mental distress, offering support in the moment, and pointing friends and peers toward resources that can really help.
Why “Be Sensitive, Be Brave”?
The name says it all. Being sensitive means tuning into the small cues that might signal someone isn’t doing okay — a shift in mood, pulling back from activities they normally love, or just that gut feeling that something’s off. Being brave is about leaning into that moment instead of turning away.
The workshop goes beyond the basics, giving you practical steps for how to start a supportive conversation, how to listen without judgment, and how to connect someone to help. Think of it as a toolkit you’ll carry with you into everyday life.
What You’ll Learn
The training is hosted by Kingdom Love, LLC, an organization focused on empowering communities with knowledge, empathy, and action steps around mental wellness. Over the two hours, students will explore topics like:
- Spotting signs of mental distress — subtle behaviors that could mean someone’s struggling.
- Effective communication — how to start the conversation without making it awkward.
- Local resources — what’s available right here in San Carlos and nearby to support youth mental health.
- Self-care strategies — because you can’t pour from an empty cup.
This isn’t a lecture where you sit quietly and take notes. Expect interactive activities, discussions, and real-world examples that make the ideas stick.

Why It Matters Now
For many teens, the last few years have been a rollercoaster of stress and uncertainty. From academic pressure to social media overload, it’s easy to feel isolated or under pressure. That’s why trainings like this are so important — they normalize talking about mental health and make sure more people feel equipped to help.
Creating a culture where friends can lean on each other doesn’t just help individuals; it makes whole communities stronger. And in San Carlos, where the phrase “City of Good Living” is more than just a motto, this workshop fits right into the spirit of looking out for one another.
Who Can Join
This particular training is for high school students in grades 9–12. If you’re a teen, you’re welcome. If you’re a parent reading this, encourage your student to attend. The session is a safe and inclusive space where all are welcome, no matter your background or personal experience with mental health.

Why You Shouldn’t Miss It
Mental health challenges don’t always announce themselves loudly. Sometimes, they whisper. By learning to be sensitive to those whispers and brave enough to respond, you could make a huge difference in someone’s life — maybe even save it.
This workshop isn’t about turning teens into therapists; it’s about giving them the awareness and courage to reach out, to connect, and to point people toward the help they need. And along the way, students will also learn how to better care for their own well-being.
The Bigger Picture
Programs like Be Sensitive, Be Brave are part of a larger movement to break down stigma and make mental health just as much a priority as physical health. Imagine if talking about anxiety or depression felt as normal as talking about a sprained ankle or a cold. That’s the culture shift happening right now — and San Carlos is helping lead the way.
By participating, students aren’t just adding one more line to their extracurricular résumé; they’re becoming leaders in kindness and compassion.
Closing Thought
High school is tough enough without trying to navigate it alone. This training invites teens to stand up for each other, to listen, and to act when it matters most. If you’re a student — or know one — this could be one of the most valuable two hours of the year.
So stay tuned for the confirmed date and location, gather your friends, and get ready to be sensitive, be brave.
