SUMMARY:Blacks\, Whites\, and Everything‑in‑Between (4‑Week Watercolor Series)
DESCRIPTION:Blacks\, Whites\, and Everything‑in‑Between (4‑Week Watercolor Series)\nLight\, shadow\, and the colors that live between them. In this hands‑on series with watercolor artist Olga Muñoz\, you’ll explore how value\, hue\, and temperature transform a flat sheet of paper into luminous studies of form. Over four Wednesday evenings\, you’ll build fluency in mixing\, layering\, and seeing—because painting is really the art of translating light. \nSchedule & Location\n\nDates: Wednesdays — October 1\, 8\, 15\, and 22\, 2025\nTime: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM (America/Los_Angeles)\nVenue: Art Bias\, Studio 114\, 1700 Industrial Road\, San Carlos\, CA 94070\nTuition: $350 for the full 4‑week series\nMaterials: All materials included\n\nWhat You’ll Learn\nEach session deepens a core watercolor skill\, with demos\, guided exercises\, and personal feedback. Expect to paint every class—and to leave with studies you’ll be proud of. \n\nWeek 1 — Value & Seeing in Black and White: Grayscale scales\, wet‑on‑wet vs. wet‑on‑dry\, lifting and soft edges. How to simplify a subject into big value shapes.\nWeek 2 — Neutrals & Everything‑in‑Between: Mixing rich neutrals without mud\, controlling saturation\, and creating depth with limited palettes.\nWeek 3 — Light\, Temperature\, and Edges: Warm/cool relationships\, hard vs. lost edges\, glazing for glow. Studies of reflective and matte surfaces.\nWeek 4 — From Study to Statement: Planning a small finished piece; composition\, focal points\, and confident brushwork. Group share and feedback.\n\nWhy This Series Works\n\nBeginner‑friendly\, yet packed with depth for returning painters.\nMaterials provided\, so you can focus on learning (and not your shopping list).\nSteady momentum: four structured sessions to build skill\, not just one‑off tips.\nPersonal feedback from Olga every class.\n\nAbout the Instructor\nOlga Muñoz is a practicing watercolor artist and educator known for clear instruction and a calm\, encouraging classroom. Her approach emphasizes value structure first—because when the lights and darks work\, color sings. Expect practical demos\, thoughtful critique\, and plenty of time to paint. \nWhat to Bring\n\nYour curiosity and clothes you don’t mind getting a splash on—everything else is provided.\nOptional: a small sketchbook for thumbnails between sessions.\n\n  \nPhoto by Wioleta Zakrzewska \n\nWho Should Attend\n\nNew painters who want a guided start.\nReturning artists who want to sharpen fundamentals.\nAnyone who wants a mid‑week creative practice that sticks.\n\nFAQ\nIs this suitable for complete beginners? Yes. We start with value and build from there. You’ll be painting in the first 15 minutes. \nAre materials really included? Yep—paper\, paints\, palettes\, and brushes are provided each session. \nWhat if I miss a class? You’ll receive the weekly handout with exercises; space permitting\, limited make‑ups may be available—ask at check‑in. \nDo I need to draw? A little helps\, but we’ll cover basic sketching for watercolor. \nRegistration\nReserve your seat via the ticket link. Space is limited to keep feedback personalized. Four evenings\, one strong foundation in value and color—join us. \n\n \n  \n \nFor more events at Art Bias\, see their Calendar\n  \n\nSee other interesting events in San Carlos. We mix traditional bluegrass and country tunes with fresh arrangements and a joyful stage presence. \nHere’s who you’ll see on stage at Nightfall: \n\nLisa Burns: holding down the rhythm on bass\nKim Elking: weaving bright melodies on mandolin\nPhyllis Erck: adding texture with dobro and banjo\nLinda Maki: providing steady guitar and vocals\nLee Anne Welch: painting the night with fiddle tunes\n\nTogether\, we create a sound that’s lively\, warm\, and perfect for a fall evening under the stars. At Filoli Nightfall\, we’ll even throw in a few spooky songs to fit the atmosphere. Imagine hearing a fiddle tune echoing through the trees as scarecrows watch from the shadows—it’s the kind of Halloween magic you can only find at Filoli. \nWhy Filoli Nightfall Is Special \nFiloli Gardens\, located in Woodside\, CA\, is already a gem of the Bay Area—a historic estate surrounded by lush gardens and sprawling natural landscapes. But in October\, it takes on a whole new personality. \nNightfall is designed as a seasonal celebration of mystery\, wonder\, and fun. It’s family-friendly but still carries just enough spookiness to make the evening exciting for adults too. From the moment the sun dips below the horizon\, the grounds are illuminated with lanterns\, glowing art installations\, and playful surprises. \nThe pumpkin-filled Meadow is picture-perfect for fall\, and the moonlit woods add just the right amount of shiver to your walk. Whether you’re visiting for the romance\, the family adventure\, or the chance to experience live music under the autumn sky\, Nightfall is an unforgettable outing. \nThree Chances to Join Us\nThe Goat Hill Girls will be part of the Nightfall magic on three different dates: \n\nWednesday\, October 8\, 2025\, at 5:30 pm (PDT)\nMonday\, October 20\, 2025\, at 5:30 pm (PDT)\nFriday\, October 31\, 2025\, at 5:30 pm (PDT) – Halloween Night!\n\nEach night promises a unique atmosphere.
SUMMARY:Veteran Warehouse Organization: Giving Back to Those Who Served - Come and join us in this meaningful event
DESCRIPTION:Veteran Warehouse Organization: Giving Back to Those Who Served\nThere are countless ways to show appreciation for the men and women who dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms. While some gestures may be small\, others have the power to create a lasting impact. One such opportunity is happening soon at the Veteran Warehouse Organization\, where community members can come together\, roll up their sleeves\, and contribute to a cause that directly benefits those who have served our country. \nAbout This Event\nOn Sunday\, October 12\, 2025\, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (GMT-07:00)\, you are invited to participate in an event hosted at 900 Commercial Street\, San Carlos\, United States. This community-driven effort is part of Veteran Warehouse Support\, a program designed to honor and support veterans in need by organizing and distributing essential donations. \nThe event is being coordinated in partnership with +More Perfect Union (mpu.us)\, a nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through action\, compassion\, and collaboration. By uniting volunteers of all ages and backgrounds\, this gathering will focus on sorting and organizing donations to provide new furniture and other necessities to veterans who may be starting fresh\, rebuilding their lives\, or simply in need of extra support. \nThe guiding principle of this event can be summarized in one statement: “Our Mission\, Our Veterans.” \nWhy It Matters\nWhen people think about giving back\, they often picture monetary donations or large-scale fundraising efforts. While those are important\, hands-on service like this has a unique impact. Veterans\, many of whom face challenges transitioning back into civilian life\, often need help with basic household items. Something as simple as a bed\, a chair\, or a table can provide comfort\, dignity\, and a sense of stability. \nThe Veteran Warehouse Organization bridges that gap by ensuring veterans are not left behind. Every item sorted\, every box unpacked\, and every piece of furniture delivered has a story and a purpose. Volunteers aren’t just moving items from one place to another—they’re actively building the foundation for veterans to feel valued\, supported\, and connected to their community. \nWhat to Expect\nThe beauty of this event lies in its inclusivity and accessibility. You don’t have to commit an entire day\, or even have specialized skills\, to participate. As the invitation states: \n\n“Come join us at Veteran Warehouse Support and help give back to those who served our country! Come join us for an hour or the morning.” \n\nWhether you can spare sixty minutes or stay for the full four hours\, your contribution will be meaningful. Tasks may include: \n\n\nSorting and organizing donated furniture and household goods. \n\n\nPreparing items for distribution to veterans in need. \n\n\nAssisting with warehouse organization to improve efficiency. \n\n\nConnecting with fellow volunteers to build a sense of community. \n\n\nThis hands-on work not only ensures that veterans receive the support they deserve\, but also creates a rewarding experience for participants. There’s something profoundly uplifting about working side by side with others for a shared purpose. \nBuilding Community Through Service\nThe Veteran Warehouse Support event isn’t just about furniture and logistics—it’s about connection. Volunteering creates opportunities to meet people from diverse backgrounds who share the same goal: giving back. It fosters camaraderie\, strengthens local bonds\, and reminds us all of the importance of service—both in and outside of military life. \nCommunity service has a ripple effect. By showing up for our veterans\, we’re also teaching future generations about the values of empathy\, responsibility\, and gratitude. A child who sees their parent volunteering may carry that same spirit of generosity forward. A student who spends a morning helping veterans may be inspired to pursue a career in public service. Even adults who are new to volunteering often leave with a renewed sense of purpose and belonging. \nHow This Event Helps Directly\nNot all volunteer events offer such tangible results. At Veteran Warehouse Organization\, however\, the outcome is clear and immediate. By the end of the day\, the warehouse will be better organized\, donations will be sorted\, and veterans will be one step closer to receiving the support they need. \n\n“This is a great opportunity to give back\, build community\, and support a great cause that directly benefits Veterans in need with new furniture.” \n\nThat direct benefit is what makes this event stand out. It isn’t abstract or delayed—the impact happens in real time. Volunteers know their efforts are making a measurable difference in the lives of veterans. \nDon’t Miss This Opportunity\nIn today’s busy world\, it can be easy to overlook chances to serve. But this event is more than just another item on the calendar—it’s a chance to be part of something larger than yourself. By showing up on October 12\, you’ll not only contribute to an important mission\, but also leave with a deeper sense of gratitude and fulfillment. \nAs the announcement encourages: \n\n“Don’t miss out on this chance to make a real impact!” \n\nWhether you’re a student looking for volunteer hours\, a professional seeking to give back\, or simply someone who wants to honor the sacrifices of veterans\, this is the perfect opportunity. \nFinal Thoughts\nThe Veteran Warehouse Organization event represents the best of what community service can offer: impact\, connection\, and gratitude. By joining hands with others\, you can help ensure that no veteran feels forgotten or unsupported. \nSo mark your calendar for Sunday\, October 12\, 2025\, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at 900 Commercial Street\, San Carlos. Now’s your chance to find out. The Intro to Aerial Silks class is the perfect way to experience the art and athleticism of aerial movement in a safe\, supportive\, and beginner-friendly environment. Whether you’re curious about aerial silks or looking for a new and exciting way to build strength\, this class will challenge your body and inspire your spirit. \nWhat is Aerial Silks?\nAerial silks—also known as aerial fabric or tissu—is a captivating form of aerial dance where performers climb\, wrap\, and twist themselves in long strands of fabric suspended from the ceiling. Combining athletic power with artistic movement\, aerial silks require both strength and creativity. While it may look effortless when performed by professionals\, it’s actually a fantastic full-body workout that builds endurance\, flexibility\, coordination\, and confidence. \nThe Intro to Aerial Silks class is designed specifically for beginners. No experience is necessary—just bring an open mind\, a sense of adventure\, and a willingness to try something new. Even if you’ve never set foot in a gym or dance studio before\, you’ll be surprised by how much you can accomplish in just one session. \n\nWhat to Expect in Class\nThis 90-minute class is structured to help participants safely explore aerial silks at their own pace. You’ll begin with a warm-up and conditioning exercises that strengthen your core and upper body\, preparing you for movement both on and off the silks. These exercises are essential for building the stability and control you’ll need as you learn to climb and perform simple poses. \nThe instructor will guide you step-by-step through basic grips\, foot locks\, and positions. Safety and proper form are emphasized throughout\, so you can feel confident as you take your first steps off the ground. By the end of the session\, you’ll have learned some foundational skills and perhaps even experienced your first “moment of flight.” \nMost participants find that after just one class\, they’re eager to come back for more. As the saying goes\, “Try it once and you’ll be hooked!” \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho Can Join\nThis class is open to participants ages 12 and older. Whether you’re a teen looking for a new creative outlet or an adult seeking a fun and challenging fitness experience\, aerial silks can be an empowering way to explore movement. The studio continues to maintain high hygiene and ventilation standards to ensure a comfortable and safe experience for everyone. \nDuring class\, participants are instructed on how to use the silks properly\, spot one another safely\, and perform movements within their comfort zone. The supportive environment encourages learning at your own pace without pressure or competition. \nClass Policies\nBecause of the personalized nature of the instruction and the limited equipment\, space is limited to a maximum of 10 students per class. This ensures that each participant receives individual attention and guidance. \nTo hold a class\, a minimum of three students must be registered. Once class begins\, there are no refunds and no make-up classes\, so please be sure of your availability before signing up. These policies help maintain consistency and fairness for all participants and instructors. \nIf you’re interested in joining\, it’s best to sign up early—spots fill quickly due to the small class size. Don’t miss your chance to experience the exhilaration of aerial silks! \nWhy You’ll Love Aerial Silks\nAerial silks aren’t just a workout—they’re an adventure. Each movement challenges you to combine strength\, control\, and creativity in ways that traditional exercise can’t match. Over time\, you’ll notice improvements in your posture\, muscle tone\, balance\, and coordination. \nBut beyond the physical benefits\, aerial silks also nurture mental focus and confidence. Learning to trust your body while suspended in the air builds a unique sense of empowerment. It teaches patience\, discipline\, and the joy of progress—no matter how small each step may seem. \nThe supportive community atmosphere makes the experience even more rewarding. In every class\, you’ll meet people from different backgrounds who share the same excitement for movement and growth. Together\, you’ll cheer each other on as you conquer new heights—literally! \nPrepare to Take Flight\nIf you’ve ever dreamed of flying—or simply want to try something new that combines fitness\, fun\, and artistry—the Intro to Aerial Silks class is your perfect starting point. Dick previously worked in the restaurant and food service industries. He and two high school classmates managed and operated 30 Cask ‘n Cleaver restaurants in Southern California from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. \nDick then became a partner and owner of Todd’s Foods\, a company that supplies restaurants with soups\, sauces\, and salad dressings. After the Heinz Company acquired Todd’s in 2001\, Dick stayed for three years before deciding to leave because he was considered too entrepreneurial for a public corporation. \nBob Mullen\, co-founder of Auto Vino\, and founder of Woodside Vineyards\, began producing wine from little more than one acre of grapes at the original Winery on Kings Mountain Road in 1960. The winery became bonded or licensed to sell Bob’s creations three years later. \nBob\, who grew up in Youngstown\, Ohio\, never had a glass of wine until he moved to California in the 1950s. He worked for Armstrong World Industries when he was transferred from Chicago to San Francisco to become the Western Regional Manager. \nIn California\, there were 121 wineries (now 4\,200) when Bob began his business\, and through the years\, Woodside Vineyards has developed a good reputation for its fine wines. Our vineyard workers manage\, harvest\, and produce wine from over 35 vineyards on private estates in Woodside and the surrounding area. \nToday\, Buff and his eldest son\, Phil Giurlani\, the Chief Operating Officer\, manages the day-to-day operations at Auto Vino\, including venue bookings for private and corporate events\, Friday lunch service\, and weekend wine tastings. \nDaisey G.\, our designated greeter for Friday lunches and Weekend Wine Tastings\, is a purebred Yellow Labrador Retriever who exudes love\, even to those who are afraid of dogs\, adores people\, and her tail wags with delight when new visitors arrive. Her charming demeanor will quickly win you over. \n \n\nEvent Source: Auto Vino Official Facebook Page\nMore Community Events at Main Events Calendar | See All Events at City Calendar

The Friends of SCACC is about: Caring\, Helping\, Remembering \nThe San Carlos community has demonstrated over the years that it cares for all its diverse groups\, and particularly the elderly. In 1982 the city built the Adult Community Center and since then has continued a series of programs designed to add to the quality of life of our seniors. \nFunding limitations can materially impact the improvement and expansion of services. The community\, however\, recognized the need for helping the ACC. Scores of volunteers from throughout the city\, including The Friends\, have donated countless hours each year to sustain existing services and add others. \nThe ACC has played a positive role in the lives of many San Carlos seniors. Many seniors have acknowledged this by making voluntary donations\, bequests\, and including the Adult Community Center in their Estate Plans as a way of remembering its impact on their lives and the lives of others. \nA Tax-Exempt\, Non Profit Organization \nThe Friends of the SCACC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to accept financial gifts for the ACC. Funds received are carefully used for the development and improvement of programs and services which exceed budgetary constraints of the City of San Carlos. \nFor more details\, about how you can assist the Adult Community Center with gifts and bequests\, call (650) 802-4384\, Monday through Friday\, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. \n \nSee other interesting events in San Carlos.
