SUMMARY:Paint-A-Plane at Hiller Aviation Museum
DESCRIPTION:Paint-A-Plane Takes Off at Hiller Aviation Museum\nEvery kid dreams of flight. From building paper airplanes that zoom across the living room to pointing at jets roaring overhead\, aviation sparks curiosity like few other things. At the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos\, that spark gets to ignite in a hands-on way with Paint-A-Plane\, a family event designed to give children (and adults who are still kids at heart) the chance to get up close with real aircraft\, paint on the fuselage\, and explore aviation like never before. \nThis isn’t just an ordinary museum visit—it’s part art project\, part science lab\, and part play zone. The museum brings together interactive activities\, cockpit checkouts\, and imaginative construction projects into one unforgettable day. \n  \nWhat’s the Buzz About Paint-A-Plane?\nThe star of the show is the Paint-A-Plane Cessna Cardinal. Instead of being roped off or admired from a distance\, this aircraft transforms into a giant blank canvas. Kids grab brushes and paint right onto the plane’s surface\, turning aviation engineering into a masterpiece of creativity. Bright swirls\, cartoon doodles\, rainbow wings—you never know what the plane will look like by the end of the day\, but you can bet it will be colorful. \nThis unique opportunity isn’t just fun\, it’s also educational. Children learn that planes aren’t just abstract machines—they’re real\, touchable objects that can inspire imagination. For many\, it’s the first time standing right next to an actual plane\, and it makes the experience of aviation feel immediate and personal. \n  \nA Full Hangar of Activities\nOf course\, painting the plane is just the beginning. The Hiller Aviation Museum knows how to make a family outing feel like an adventure. Here’s a taste of what’s in store: \n\nJump House – If the weather plays nice\, kids can bounce and burn off energy in an outdoor inflatable zone. (Parents\, consider this your break time.)\nScorpion Helicopter Checkout – Climb aboard a real helicopter cockpit and imagine what it’s like to lift off the ground. Future pilots get a firsthand peek at the controls and switches.\nPaper Helicopter Construction – Sometimes simple toys teach the biggest lessons. With paper\, scissors\, and a little folding\, kids create twirling helicopters that actually fly. It’s physics disguised as play.\nPenguin Airplane Assembly – A whimsical activity where children build their own “penguin planes.” (Don’t worry\, no penguins are involved\, just penguin-themed crafts that soar surprisingly well.)\nOpen Cockpit Aircraft – The museum opens up select aircraft so visitors can climb inside and explore. Instead of staring through glass\, you can touch the dials\, sit in the pilot’s seat\, and picture yourself taking off.\n\n\nMore Than Just Play\nWhat makes Paint-A-Plane stand out is the way it merges fun with learning. Every activity has an educational twist. Paper helicopters introduce aerodynamics. Cockpit tours show kids how real instruments work. Painting a plane sparks conversations about design\, materials\, and why aircraft look the way they do. \nFor parents\, it’s a way to sneak in science\, engineering\, and problem-solving without it ever feeling like a classroom. For kids\, it’s just an awesome day. \nAnd because the Hiller Aviation Museum specializes in aviation history and technology\, the event is surrounded by fascinating exhibits. Families can wander through displays of experimental aircraft\, early aviation history\, and even futuristic flying machines. It’s the perfect mix of hands-on play and museum discovery. \n  \nSeasonal Highlights\nPaint-A-Plane isn’t a one-time event—it shows up throughout the year\, sometimes with special twists. In the fall\, for example\, the museum hosts a Halloween Paint-A-Plane\, complete with “ghosticopters\,” spooky crafts\, and a haunted hangar gallery. Costumes mix with cockpits\, and the whole museum takes on a festive vibe. \nNo matter which weekend you go\, expect plenty of surprises. Some activities may be weather dependent\, but the museum ensures there’s always more than enough to keep everyone entertained. \n  \nWhy Families Love It\nParents rave about Paint-A-Plane because it manages to hit that rare sweet spot: it’s just as fun for the kids as it is engaging for the adults. Younger children love the hands-on painting and jumping\, while older kids get absorbed in the cockpit exploration or engineering challenges. \nIt’s also one of those rare activities where screen time takes a back seat. Instead of staring at pixels\, children are building\, painting\, and experimenting with real objects. And unlike many kids’ events\, it’s something siblings of different ages can enjoy together. \n  \nPlanning Your Visit\n\nLocation: Hiller Aviation Museum\, 601 Skyway Road\, San Carlos\, California\nAdmission: Paint-A-Plane activities are included with regular museum admission. Members get in free—just flash your membership card at the door.\nParking: Free on-site parking makes it easy for families.\nFood Options: The museum doesn’t have a full café\, but there are plenty of nearby spots in San Carlos if you want to grab lunch after your visit.\n\n\nA Little History of Hiller Aviation Museum\nFounded by helicopter pioneer Stanley Hiller Jr.\, the museum has been inspiring generations since opening in 1998. Its mission is simple: to share the past\, present\, and future of flight. With over 50 aircraft on display—from sleek jets to quirky prototypes—it’s a destination that appeals to everyone\, not just aviation buffs. \nPaint-A-Plane is part of that mission. By giving kids the chance to interact directly with aviation\, the museum hopes to plant the seeds for the next generation of engineers\, pilots\, and dreamers. \nFAQ\nDo we need to bring paint or supplies?\nNope. The museum provides everything—paint\, brushes\, and aircraft. All you need to bring is your creativity (and maybe some clothes you don’t mind getting splattered). \nIs Paint-A-Plane safe for all ages?\nYes\, though younger children may need extra supervision in cockpit areas or with scissors during craft projects. The jump house and painting are perfect for kids as young as preschool. \nWhat happens if it rains?\nSome activities like the jump house are weather dependent\, but the museum ensures there are always plenty of indoor crafts and cockpit explorations available. \nDo parents need tickets too?\nYes\, all visitors need general museum admission. Kids under a certain age may qualify for free or reduced tickets. Members always get in free. \nThe Bottom Line\nPaint-A-Plane is more than an event—it’s an experience. It’s the chance for kids to climb\, build\, paint\, and imagine themselves as aviators. It’s also a way for families to spend a day together that’s playful\, educational\, and just a little messy. \nSo if your child has ever launched a paper plane off the couch or begged to peek inside the cockpit of a real aircraft\, this is your chance to let them live that dream. Paint-A-Plane at Hiller Aviation Museum proves that aviation isn’t just about flying—it’s about inspiring imagination\, one painted fuselage at a time. \n\n \nFor more events at the museum\, please visit their calendar. \n  \n\nSee other interesting events in San Carlos. SUMMARY:Harringtunes Concerts 2025: With Decaf Jazz\, The Horse’s Mac\, and 19th Avenue Roadwork
DESCRIPTION:Harringtunes Concert 2025: Live Music + Open Chess Downtown\nEnjoy fall concerts on Laurel Street and a side of strategy at Frank D. Harrington Park. Settle in for live sets by local performers while two permanent chess boards—courtesy of the Parks and Recreation Foundation of San Carlos—are stocked with pieces and ready for friendly showdowns. Bring your own snacks and drinks\, or plan a dinner stop at your favorite Laurel Street restaurant after the music winds down. \nChess boards and pieces are available first-come\, first-served. Interested in sponsoring or performing at an upcoming Harringtunes concert? Reach out to Recreation Supervisor Lauren Burd at (650) 802-4127 or lburd@cityofsancarlos.org. \nWhat’s the Vibe?\nIt’s simple: live music\, open-air chess\, and an easygoing neighborhood crowd. These sets are designed for lingering—pick up a pastry\, snag some shade\, and let the soundtrack carry you through the afternoon (or early evening). If your opening move is usually “grab a latte\,” consider this your green light. If you’re more of a “find a picnic table” type\, we’ve got room for that too. \nAbout the artists\nDecaf Jazz (Sept. 7\, 2025: Sunday)\nDecaf Jazz brews a smooth blend of standards and easygoing grooves—strong enough to perk up your afternoon\, but mellow enough for conversation at the chess tables nearby. Expect unhurried tempos\, warm melodies\, and the kind of city-park soundtrack that pairs well with an iced coffee and a sunny bench. \nThe Horse’s Mac (Sept. 28\, 2025: Sunday)\nThe Horse’s Mac brings jangly guitars\, friendly hooks\, and a dash of indie swagger—think toe-taps and head-bobs as your pawns inch forward. They’re neighborhood favorites for a reason: upbeat\, unfussy\, and perfectly suited to a casual downtown Saturday. \n19th Avenue Roadwork (Nov. 20\, 2025: Thursday)\n19th Avenue Roadwork lays down a tight lane of rhythm and a few surprise detours; no hard hats required. They mix rock and rootsy turns with a wink\, making rush hour feel like the best part of the day. \n— \nLooking for a way to introduce a friend to the scene? This is an effortless entry point: approachable tunes\, zero fuss\, and a no-ticket format that welcomes folks to wander in and stay as long as they like. \nChess\, but make it social\nThe two permanent boards at Frank D. Harrington Park are stocked with pieces during the show\, so you can trade riffs and rooks at the same time. It’s first-come\, first-served\, and games tend to move quickly—when a set wraps\, a new match usually starts. If you’re brand-new to chess\, come anyway. You’ll pick up the basics fast by watching neighbors play a few rounds. \nQuick tips for casual play\n\nKeep games friendly and under 20 minutes so others can rotate in.\nSnap a photo of the end position if you’re mid-game at set break.\nBring a light jacket; the breeze can pick up on Laurel Street.\nPack a water bottle. The park has shade\, but music + chess can be surprisingly focused!\n\nFood & nearby stops\nOne of the perks of downtown sets is proximity to favorites on Laurel Street. Build your own mini-itinerary: \n\nCoffee first\, music second. Or flip it.\nSplit time between the stage area and the chess tables.\nGrab dinner right after the encore. It’s the perfect handoff from day to night.\n\nAccessibility & comfort\nFrank D. Harrington Park is a flat\, open space with benches and room to stand or bring a compact chair. Restrooms are available at nearby businesses\, and curb ramps make it easy to navigate around the block. If you need a quieter moment\, step off to the edges of the park and drift back when you’re ready. \nSponsorships & performers\nLocal businesses\, school groups\, and emerging artists are invited to get involved. Sponsorship helps keep the series free and lively; performers add color to the lineup across genres. To learn more\, contact Recreation Supervisor Lauren Burd at (650) 802-4127 or lburd@cityofsancarlos.org. \nWhat to bring\n\nA small chair or picnic blanket\nA light sweater for the evening breeze\nYour chess A-game (or curiosity)\nSnacks and a refillable bottle\nFriends\, family\, neighbors—this is an inclusive\, community-forward hang\n\nFAQs\nDo I need tickets? No—these shows are free and open to the public.\nCan I bring kids? Absolutely. The format is relaxed\, and the park is a low-pressure setting.\nCan I bring my dog? Leashed pups who play well with others are welcome.\nWhat if I don’t play chess? Listen in\, then jump into a game when you’re ready. Someone will happily explain the basics. \nThe takeaway\nCome for the live music\, stay for the camaraderie. Laurel Street shines in the fall\, and Frank D. Harrington Park turns into a friendly crossroads of melodies and chess moves. Whether you’re here for a full set or catching a few songs between errands\, this is an easy\, memorable way to spend part of your day. \nPhotos\nTaken from the official website of Harringtunes Concerts by the City of San Carlos \n \n \n \n \n\n  \n \nSponsored by the San Carlos Parks & Recreation Department. \n  \n\nSee other interesting events in San Carlos. San Carlos is about to get groovy with a colorful community celebration that combines a century of history\, a scoop (or two) of ice cream\, and a splash of classic cars. On Saturday\, September 13th\, 2025\, the Museum of San Carlos History is hosting its annual Ice Cream Social\, and this year it’s paired with Tie Dye Day in San Carlos. \nThis free afternoon event promises something for all ages: sweet treats\, a peek into local history\, a car show lineup that’ll make gearheads grin\, and enough tie-dye fashion to make the 1960s jealous. \n  \nIce Cream Social Photos by Gayle Collins \n\nWhat’s Happening on September 13th\nThe fun kicks off at the Museum of San Carlos History (533 Laurel Street\, next to the fire station) from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Four tubs of ice cream and toppings are ready to go\, so bring your sweet tooth.\nClassic Car Mini-Show featuring gems like a 1970 Mercury Cougar\, 1957 Ford Thunderbird\, 1953 Mercury Convertible\, and even a San Carlos Police Department 1963 Chevrolet. Of course\, the Museum’s iconic 1927 Seagrave Firetruck will be parked proudly for photos.\nOpportunity Drawings and prizes up for grabs.\nTie Dye Bonus – wear tie-dye and you’ll score a little extra treat.\n\n  \n\nIce Cream Social Art by John Durkin \n\nThe Sweet Scoop on the Ice Cream Social\nLet’s face it: ice cream is always a good idea. But ice cream that’s free? Even better. Add in the fact that Baskin-Robbins is donating the scoops\, and you’ve got a hometown partnership worth cheering for. \nCars That Tell Stories\nSome people come for the sprinkles. Others come for the horsepower. The Museum’s mini-car show adds another layer of excitement to the afternoon. A quick look at the lineup: \n\n1970 Mercury Cougar\n1957 Ford Thunderbird\nTwo Model A Fords\n1957 Ford Ranchero\n1963 Chevrolet Police Department car\n1968 Ford\n1940 Ford\n1953 Mercury Convertible\n1940 Packard Woodie\nPlus the Museum’s beloved 1927 Seagrave Firetruck\n\nIt’s basically a history book on wheels\, and you don’t even have to read footnotes. \nCentennial Fun\nThe Museum isn’t just serving up ice cream—it’s also celebrating a major milestone: the San Carlos Centennial. That means this year’s Ice Cream Social is extra special\, tying together a century of stories with a family-friendly afternoon. If you’ve ever wanted a crash course in local history that doesn’t feel like homework\, this is it. \n  \nIce Cream Social Art by John Durkin \n  \nThe Big Opportunity Drawing\nNow let’s talk prizes. The Museum is hosting a supersized Opportunity Drawing\, and the grand prize is a staycation package right here in San Carlos: \n\nA one-night weekend stay at Residence Inn Redwood City/San Carlos (breakfast and parking included).\nA $50 gift certificate to Elia in San Carlos.\nA $25 gift certificate to Groovy Goose.\n\nTickets are $5 each\, or you can grab five for $20. Pre-sales are happening at the Museum or through Venmo (@TrudySomrak). Don’t worry if you can’t stick around until the drawing at 3:45 pm—winners will be notified. \nWhy Tie Dye?\nThis event doubles as Tie Dye Day in San Carlos\, which means the city is encouraging everyone to add a splash of color to their wardrobe. Think rainbow shirts\, psychedelic socks\, or even tie-dye accessories. The brighter\, the better. The idea is simple: fill the town with color and community spirit. \n  \nIce Cream Social Art by John Durkin \n\nBring the Family\nThis isn’t just an event for history buffs or ice cream lovers. It’s for families\, friends\, and anyone looking to spend a relaxed Saturday afternoon in San Carlos. Kids can explore the museum\, parents can enjoy the classic cars\, and everyone can end the day with a sundae. Best of all\, it’s free to attend\, making it one of the most accessible and fun events of the season. \nQuick FAQ\nIs the event free?\nYes! Admission and sundaes are free. Opportunity drawing tickets are optional. \nDo I need to register?\nNope. Just show up between 1 and 4 pm. \nWhere is the Museum of San Carlos History?\n533 Laurel Street\, next to the fire station. \nWhat’s the dress code?\nTie-dye encouraged. SUMMARY:Halfway to Paddys Day Bash in San Carlos
DESCRIPTION:Halfway to Paddys Day in San Carlos\nIf you think March is the only time you can don green\, raise a pint\, and let Irish tunes sweep you away—think again. Molly O’s Irish Pub in downtown San Carlos has decided that waiting until spring is just too long. On Saturday\, September 13\, 2025\, they’re rolling out a celebration that proves St. Patrick’s Day energy can be bottled and uncorked six months early. \nThe Idea Behind “Halfway to Paddys Day”\nFor those who might not have the Irish calendar memorized\, September marks the halfway point to St. Patrick’s Day. And let’s be honest\, after summer winds down\, we could all use an excuse to gather with friends\, enjoy some music\, and raise a glass. Molly O’s isn’t just nodding to March 17—they’re recreating the vibe entirely\, complete with Guinness selfies\, live fiddles\, and a menu that shouts Irish pride. \n  \nHalfway to Paddys Day. photo from Molly Os San Carlos Instagram \n\nWhat’s Happening at Molly O’s\n\nFret & Fiddle Live: A local favorite\, this Irish traditional band brings reels\, jigs\, and the kind of toe-tapping ballads that make you forget what decade you’re in. Close your eyes\, and you’ll swear you’re in a pub in Dublin.\nOysters All Day: Because nothing pairs with a pint quite like fresh-shucked oysters. It’s salty\, briny perfection alongside that signature Irish stout.\nGuinness Stoutie Machine: Ever wanted your selfie printed in foam? The Guinness Stoutie makes it possible\, and yes\, it’s as quirky and Instagram-worthy as it sounds.\nMad March Hare Poitín: Poitín (say it like “po-cheen”) is considered the world’s oldest distilled spirit. The team at Molly O’s is mixing it into cocktails\, while sharing the history and lore of this infamous Irish liquor.\n\nWhy You’ll Want to Be There\nThere are plenty of events in San Carlos\, but few that manage to blend Irish tradition with Bay Area energy quite like this one. This isn’t a watered-down holiday remake—it’s the full St. Patrick’s Day spirit\, compressed into three festive hours. You’ll hear music that makes your feet move before your brain says yes. You’ll eat and drink things that make you feel both adventurous and comforted. And you’ll walk away with the kind of memories that only happen when Guinness foam and Celtic fiddles collide. \n  \nHalfway to Paddy’s Day\, Oysters\, Molly Os San Carlos (1) \n\nFrequently Asked Questions\n\nIs this a family-friendly event? While the music and vibe are welcoming\, Molly O’s is a pub\, so the atmosphere leans toward adult fun with plenty of drinks on offer.\nDo I need tickets? At the time of writing\, no ticket info has been released. Keep an eye on Molly O’s socials or call the pub for the latest.\nIs there food besides oysters? Absolutely. Molly O’s standard menu—pub fare with Irish twists—will be available all evening.\nShould I wear green? Not required\, but strongly encouraged. Half the fun of Paddy’s Day is the sea of shamrock shades.\n\nFinal Toast\nHalfway to Paddy’s Day is more than a date on the calendar—it’s proof that you don’t need to wait until March to celebrate what makes Irish culture beloved around the globe. From the music and oysters to the pints of Guinness and cheeky cocktails\, this is a chance to lean into joy\, community\, and a little mischief. \nSo throw on something green\, rally your crew\, and get ready to toast at Molly O’s on September 13. Sláinte! \n \n \nFor more events at Molly O’s\, please visit their calendar. \n  \n\nSee other interesting events in San Carlos.
SUMMARY:Its Time for Some Awesome Craft Time: Featuring "Let's Build a Town" by Chris Van Dusen
DESCRIPTION:It’s Craft Time at the Reading Bug! Let’s Build a Town!\nMark your calendars now! On Sunday\, September 14 at 11:00 am and again on Sunday\, September 28 at 11:00 am\, we’re hosting special creative sessions in honor of the San Carlos Centennial—and celebrating the upcoming visit of beloved children’s author-illustrator Chris Van Dusen\, who will be joining us with his brand new book If I Built a Town. \n  \nChris Van Dusen\, from his official website \n\nWhat We’re Doing\nWe’re inviting children\, families\, school groups\, and all imaginative souls to help us build our own town: one that comes straight from your dreams\, from your imaginations\, from the weirdest\, wackiest\, most wonderful ideas you can muster. We’ll provide lots of different art supplies\, materials\, and tools\, but if you’ve got things at home you think would add flavor\, a bit of sparkle\, texture\, color\, unusual shapes\, please bring them! Glue\, cardboard\, recycled items\, fabric bits\, buttons\, sticks\, whatever inspires you. \nDuring these two sessions (Sept 14 & Sept 28)\, we’ll spend time designing\, constructing\, painting\, assembling. We’ll build houses\, parks\, roads\, fountains\, weird towers\, whimsy corners—whatever your minds say should belong in your perfect town. \n\nWhy These Dates & What Follows\nThese two Sunday gatherings are your chance to plan\, create\, experiment. Then\, on October 8\, Chris Van Dusen will visit the bookstore in person. At that time\, we will present our community-made town to Chris. It’s going to be a grand moment—where your art meets the artist. And yes\, tickets for that visit are free. (You can get yours here: [GET THOSE FREE TICKETS HERE].) \n\nWho Is Chris Van Dusen: More About the Author & Illustrator\nTo give you some background so you come in knowing a little about him: \n\nChris Van Dusen was born in Portland\, Maine\, on St. Patrick’s Day\, 1960. (chrisvandusen.com)\nFrom childhood he was already drawing: aliens\, robots\, monsters among his favorite subjects\, while his brothers drew animals and war scenes. He credits Dr. Seuss and Robert McCloskey as early heroes: Seuss for his rhythm and playful language\, McCloskey for his detailed\, realistic illustrations. (chrisvandusen.com)\nHe studied fine art at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth\, graduating in 1982 with a BFA. (chrisvandusen.com)\nAfter college\, he did a variety of work—freelance illustration\, editorial work\, cartoons—and his illustrations appeared in magazines like Nickelodeon\, Family Fun\, Disney Adventures. (chrisvandusen.com)\nHis first self-illustrated book was Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee (2000)\, inspired in part by one of his whimsical ideas—a boat stuck up in a tree—and in part by rhyming phrases he liked\, like “Mr. Magee and his little dog\, Dee / hopped in the car and drove down to the sea.” From then on he’s been actively writing and illustrating children’s picture books. (chrisvandusen.com)\nHe lives in Camden\, Maine\, with his wife\, Lori\, and their yellow Labrador named Opal. They have two sons: Ethan (who lives in California) and Tucker (in Maine). (chrisvandusen.com)\nStyle & technique: Chris Van Dusen works in gouache\, a paint medium that gives him strong control over colors\, layers\, textures. He cares a lot about details—the consistency of color\, the richness of environment\, the interplay of light and nature. You’ll see whimsical\, colorful\, often retro-inspired but freshly lively scenes. Nature\, scenery\, elements of his coastal Maine surroundings tend to leak into his work (whether explicitly or implicitly). (mainehomedesign.com)\nAside from writing and drawing his own books\, he also illustrates for other authors—among them Kate DiCamillo’s Mercy Watson series. He has earned recognition for his craftsmanship\, storytelling\, and illustration work. (Encyclopedia.com)\n\n\nWhat to Expect When Chris Visits (October 8)\n\nYou’ll meet Chris in person. You’ll get a chance to hear him speak about If I Built a Town—what inspired the story\, how he developed the ideas\, what his process looks like.\nHe may share sketches\, perhaps works-in-progress\, and maybe even reveal some behind the scenes of how his illustrations are made (color mixing\, layout\, etc.).\nWe’ll present our town\, the one we all built together\, to him. He might give thoughts\, maybe even sign books\, perhaps take photos.\n\n\nWhy It’s Special\nThis isn’t just a regular author event. It’s a chance to create together\, to let the whole community participate in imaginative vision. Building a town out of all kinds of material is fun and messy in the best possible way—it encourages creativity\, collaboration\, unexpected discoveries. The Friends of SCACC is about: Caring\, Helping\, Remembering \nThe San Carlos community has demonstrated over the years that it cares for all its diverse groups\, and particularly the elderly. In 1982 the city built the Adult Community Center and since then has continued a series of programs designed to add to the quality of life of our seniors. \nFunding limitations can materially impact the improvement and expansion of services. The community\, however\, recognized the need for helping the ACC. Scores of volunteers from throughout the city\, including The Friends\, have donated countless hours each year to sustain existing services and add others. \nThe ACC has played a positive role in the lives of many San Carlos seniors. Many seniors have acknowledged this by making voluntary donations\, bequests\, and including the Adult Community Center in their Estate Plans as a way of remembering its impact on their lives and the lives of others. \nA Tax-Exempt\, Non Profit Organization \nThe Friends of the SCACC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to accept financial gifts for the ACC. Funds received are carefully used for the development and improvement of programs and services which exceed budgetary constraints of the City of San Carlos. \nFor more details\, about how you can assist the Adult Community Center with gifts and bequests\, call (650) 802-4384\, Monday through Friday\, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. \n \nSee other interesting events in San Carlos. DESCRIPTION:Deep Sea Disco Dance: The 2025 Youth Center Dance Event\, A Night for Middle Schoolers to Shine\nSan Carlos’ Youth Center is rolling out the fog machine (metaphorically) and stringing up the lights for an event that promises music\, friends\, and just the right amount of sparkle: the Deep Sea Disco Dance. On Friday\, September 19\, 2025\, from 7:00–9:00 PM\, the Activity Room will transform into a groovy undersea dance floor exclusively for 6th\, 7th\, and 8th graders. \nThis is a safe\, fun space for middle schoolers to hang out\, dance\, and enjoy a Friday night together — no parents hovering nearby\, but with plenty of Youth Center staff on hand to keep things structured. \nWhat to Expect\n\nMusic: A DJ spinning disco vibes mixed with beachy tracks\, so expect both funky basslines and summer-ready tunes.\nSnacks: Available for just $1 each (cash only) — bring a little pocket change.\nTheme: It’s a Deep Sea Disco — so get creative! Picture disco ball meets beach party: bright colors\, sequins\, Hawaiian shirts\, or glow-in-the-dark flair.\n\n  \n \nDress Code\nWhile creativity is encouraged\, there are a few ground rules to keep things fun and safe: \n\nNo Sagging: Crotch seam length must not inhibit natural and safe movement and may not be lower than mid-thigh.\nClothing shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times.\nSee-through or fishnet fabrics\, halter tops\, off-the-shoulder\, low-cut tops\, baremidriffs and skirts or shorts shorter than mid-thigh are prohibited.\nShoes must be worn at all times.\nShoes must permit safe movement.\n\nRestrictions on freedom of student dress will be imposed by the Youth Center staff whenever the mode of dress in question is: \n\nUnsafe either to the student or those around the student\nDisruptive to event operations\nContrary to law.\n\nStudents who are in violation of the dress code will be expected to comply by a variety of means including but not limited to: reversing their clothes (wearing the shirt inside out)\, wearing provided cover-up garment\, having the item of clothing removed or contacting parents/guardians to provide a change of clothes. \nAdmission Rules\n\nSingle entry only. Once a student is admitted\, they may not leave early without a parent/guardian’s permission.\nMiddle schoolers only. This is specifically for students in grades 6–8.\n\nEvent Details at a Glance\n\nDate: Friday\, September 19\, 2025\nTime: 7:00 – 9:00 PM\nLocation: Youth Center – Activity Room\nAge Group: 6th–8th graders (approx. 10–14 years old)\nSupervisor: Emma Licko\nCategory: Youth • Self & Family\n\nRegistration\n\nResidents: Opens August 5\, 2025 at 8:00 AM\nNon-residents: Opens August 12\, 2025 at 8:00 AM\n\nWhy Middle Schoolers Will Love It\nThis isn’t just a dance; it’s a chance to connect with friends\, make new ones\, and celebrate the start of fall in a space that feels both festive and safe. The disco + beach combo is the perfect theme for bold outfits and fun group photos. \nParents can relax knowing there’s clear structure\, experienced staff\, and a single-entry policy. Students can just focus on dancing\, laughing\, and maybe flexing some new moves under the disco lights. \nTakeaway\nThe Deep Sea Disco Dance is where middle schoolers trade homework for dance floors\, disco for beachy fun\, and Friday nights for memories with friends. Grab your sequins or Hawaiian prints\, bring $1 for snacks\, and get ready to dance your way into fall. \n  \n \n\n \nFor more events by the San Carlos Parks and Recreation\, please check their Activity Directory \n\n  \nSee other interesting events in San Carlos. Take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to enjoy a day out with your family while appreciating the beauty of rare and exotic cars in a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. \nAdmission to this event is free.\n\n\n\nAuto Vino began in 2009 with a casual introduction by a legendary Silicon Valley Semiconductor figure at the Ferrari Dealership in Redwood City between Buff Giurlani and Bob Mullen.\nThe introduction to Bob\, a pioneer in the “Boutique Winery” movement in California since the early 1960s\, established the ideal business partnership that resulted in the creation of Auto Vino\, which translates to “Cars & Wine.” \nBuff grew up in San Francisco as part of a family-owned olive oil import business with a passion for fast Italian sports cars and the entrepreneurial spirit of his grandfather Angelo Giurlani who immigrated to San Francisco from Italy in 1895. \nAngelo lived in an Italian neighborhood (now The Scenic Marina District) predominantly populated by Italians from Italy’s Tuscany region\, to whom Angelo began delivering groceries to the neighborhoods from a horse-drawn wagon. \nThe following year\, when Angelo’s brother Giuseppe moved to San Francisco\, the two brothers began importing olive oil from Lucca\, Italy\, and selling it under the brand name “STAR Olive Oil.” \nBuff expanded the family business by making STAR Olive oil a nationwide brand name before the family sold the company in the mid-1970s. \nDick Burns\, a co-founder of Auto Vino and a longtime friend of Buff’s\, opened the Menlo Park location in 2009. Dick previously worked in the restaurant and food service industries. He and two high school classmates managed and operated 30 Cask ‘n Cleaver restaurants in Southern California from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. \nDick then became a partner and owner of Todd’s Foods\, a company that supplies restaurants with soups\, sauces\, and salad dressings. After the Heinz Company acquired Todd’s in 2001\, Dick stayed for three years before deciding to leave because he was considered too entrepreneurial for a public corporation. \nBob Mullen\, co-founder of Auto Vino\, and founder of Woodside Vineyards\, began producing wine from little more than one acre of grapes at the original Winery on Kings Mountain Road in 1960. The winery became bonded or licensed to sell Bob’s creations three years later. \nBob\, who grew up in Youngstown\, Ohio\, never had a glass of wine until he moved to California in the 1950s. He worked for Armstrong World Industries when he was transferred from Chicago to San Francisco to become the Western Regional Manager. \nIn California\, there were 121 wineries (now 4\,200) when Bob began his business\, and through the years\, Woodside Vineyards has developed a good reputation for its fine wines. Our vineyard workers manage\, harvest\, and produce wine from over 35 vineyards on private estates in Woodside and the surrounding area. \nToday\, Buff and his eldest son\, Phil Giurlani\, the Chief Operating Officer\, manages the day-to-day operations at Auto Vino\, including venue bookings for private and corporate events\, Friday lunch service\, and weekend wine tastings. \nDaisey G.\, our designated greeter for Friday lunches and Weekend Wine Tastings\, is a purebred Yellow Labrador Retriever who exudes love\, even to those who are afraid of dogs\, adores people\, and her tail wags with delight when new visitors arrive. Her charming demeanor will quickly win you over. \n \n\nEvent Source: Auto Vino Official Facebook Page\nMore Community Events at Main Events Calendar | See All Events at City Calendar
