SUMMARY:The Fun August Luau Luncheon at the ACC
DESCRIPTION:About the August Luau Luncheon\nEach Special Event Monthly Luncheon – this time the August Luau Luncheon – features a delicious meal\, including dessert\, a glass of wine or cider\, and live entertainment. Register here. \n \n \n  \nAbout Friends of the ACC\nThe Friends of the SCACC enable you to express your support and recognition of the value of the Adult Community Center in the San Carlos community. It is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation designed to receive and administer donations\, grants and bequests to exclusively support the center. The Friends of SCACC is about: Caring\, Helping\, Remembering \nThe San Carlos community has demonstrated over the years that it cares for all its diverse groups\, and particularly the elderly. In 1982 the city built the Adult Community Center and since then has continued a series of programs designed to add to the quality of life of our seniors. \nFunding limitations can materially impact the improvement and expansion of services. The community\, however\, recognized the need for helping the ACC. Scores of volunteers from throughout the city\, including The Friends\, have donated countless hours each year to sustain existing services and add others. \nThe ACC has played a positive role in the lives of many San Carlos seniors. Many seniors have acknowledged this by making voluntary donations\, bequests\, and including the Adult Community Center in their Estate Plans as a way of remembering its impact on their lives and the lives of others. \nA Tax-Exempt\, Non Profit Organization \nThe Friends of the SCACC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to accept financial gifts for the ACC. Funds received are carefully used for the development and improvement of programs and services which exceed budgetary constraints of the City of San Carlos. \nFor more details\, about how you can assist the Adult Community Center with gifts and bequests\, call (650) 802-4384\, Monday through Friday\, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. \n \n\n  \nSee other interesting events in San Carlos. SUMMARY:Art & Zazen at Art Bias: A Meditative Encounter with "Hope Unleashed"
DESCRIPTION:Art & Zazen at Art Bias: A Meditative Encounter with “Hope Unleashed”\nIn a world that often feels rushed and overloaded\, moments of stillness are rare — and precious. On Sunday\, August 3\, 2025\, you’re invited to embrace a unique opportunity to pause\, reflect\, and reconnect through a deeply moving fusion of visual art and meditation at Art & Zazen at Art Bias. \nThis special event offers more than just a chance to see an art installation — it invites you into a contemplative space of beauty and mindfulness\, where artistic expression meets spiritual practice. Join us to view “Hope Unleashed\,” an origami installation by Yucali\, and share in the quiet power of Zazen meditation with Rev. Zenki Nishimura. \nAbout this Event\nExperience “Hope Unleashed”\, a meditative origami installation by artist Yucali\, part of her ongoing series Where Do One Thousand Cranes Go. Located in her working studio at Art Bias\, this installation is not only visually stunning but carries deep emotional resonance. \nRooted in the traditional Japanese symbolism of the crane\, which stands for peace\, healing\, and hope\, Yucali’s work explores the gentle resilience and enduring optimism woven into each delicate fold. “Hope Unleashed” is a poetic response to uncertainty — a visual embodiment of fragile strength and collective healing. \nThe event includes a special artist talk with Yucali\, who will share the inspiration behind the series\, her process\, and how she uses origami as a tool for meditative reflection and social commentary. Her insights add a personal and powerful context to the work\, deepening the viewer’s connection to both the art and its message. \nZazen Meditation: A Practice of Presence\nFollowing the artist talk\, attendees are invited to participate in a guided Zazen (seated meditation) session led by Rev. Zenki Nishimura\, a respected teacher from the Soto Zen Buddhism International Center in San Francisco. \nZazen\, a core practice of Soto Zen Buddhism\, emphasizes sitting in quiet awareness — observing thoughts\, breath\, and being without judgment. In a world of constant distraction\, Zazen offers a return to presence and an experience of grounded peace. \nWhether you’re new to meditation or an experienced practitioner\, this session is an opportunity to deepen your mindfulness in an atmosphere enriched by visual beauty and contemplative energy. The fusion of Zazen and art allows us to move inward while still engaging outward — connecting the internal landscape of mind and spirit with the external world of form and color. \nReflect Through Art and Meditation\nReflect on themes of quiet resilience and unfolding hope through art and meditation. “Hope Unleashed” and the Zazen session are intentionally woven together\, each enhancing the other. The origami cranes represent wishes for peace and healing\, while the meditation helps us ground those intentions within ourselves. \nThis shared experience encourages a collective moment of introspection. It’s a gentle reminder that hope is not passive — it is something we build\, fold by fold\, moment by moment\, breath by breath. \nTake a Mindful Pause\nThis event invites you to take a mindful pause from the everyday and immerse yourself in a space of peace and creativity. Amid the gentle stillness of Studio 208 and the rhythmic breathing of a group in meditation\, there’s room to exhale — to notice your body\, your breath\, and the subtle joy of simply being. \nYou don’t need any prior experience in origami or Zen practice to participate. Just come with an open heart and a curious mind. \nEvent Details\n\nDate: Sunday\, August 3\, 2025\nTime: 3:00 – 3:45 PM\nLocation: Studio 208\, 2nd floorArt Bias\, 1700 Industrial Road\, San Carlos\, CA\n\nAdmission is free\, though registration is encouraged to help organizers create a peaceful and intentional experience for all attendees. \nThis event is part of First Sunday Open Studios at Art Bias\, where the public is welcome to explore the studios of resident artists\, connect with creatives\, and enjoy a vibrant atmosphere of artistic exploration. \nParking is available both at Art Bias and on surrounding streets\, making it easy to drop in and stay awhile. \nWhy You Should Attend\nIn times of uncertainty\, art and mindfulness serve as vital pathways to healing and clarity. At Art & Zazen at Art Bias\, these paths intersect\, offering a rare and meaningful experience that nourishes both soul and senses. \nYou’ll leave not only having seen a beautiful\, handcrafted origami installation\, but also having felt it — through the lens of meditation and the quiet conversation between heart and art. These cranes carry more than tradition; they carry hope. And through Zazen\, you’ll learn how to release and receive that hope within yourself. \nSo join us. View “Hope Unleashed\,” the origami installation by Yucali\, and allow yourself the grace of stillness\, reflection\, and connection. Let this be a Sunday of slowing down\, looking inward\, and opening up to what’s possible — for yourself\, for others\, and for the world. \n\nArt & Zazen at Art Bias is more than an event — it’s an experience. One filled with intention\, grace\, and a shared breath of possibility. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of something truly special. \nReserve your spot today\, and we’ll see you at Studio 208. \n  \n \nFor more events at Art Bias\, see their Calendar\n  \n  \n\nSee other interesting events in San Carlos. SUMMARY:National Night Out 2025: Celebrate Safer\, Stronger Communities
DESCRIPTION:Come and enjoy the night with us at National Night Out 2025\nIt’s time once again for neighbors across the country to come together in the name of community\, connection\, and safety. The Annual National Night Out will take place on Tuesday\, Aug. 5\, 2025\, and if you’ve never participated before\, this is the perfect year to get involved. \nNational Night Out is not just a single event — it’s a nationwide movement. Celebrated in thousands of communities from coast to coast\, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer\, more caring places to live. \nWhether you’re a longtime resident or new to the neighborhood\, National Night Out offers a fantastic opportunity to get to know the people who live nearby\, strengthen local relationships\, and show appreciation for the officers and first responders who work hard to keep our streets safe. \nWhat Is National Night Out?\nStarted in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW)\, National Night Out has grown into a beloved tradition in communities of all sizes. Held annually on the first Tuesday of August\, this evening is dedicated to building connections and encouraging trust between neighbors and local law enforcement. \nThe goal is simple: bring people together to foster a sense of community and encourage crime prevention awareness. It’s about creating a culture where neighbors look out for one another — and where residents and public safety officials work together for the greater good. \nFrom BBQs and potlucks to block parties\, ice cream socials\, and outdoor movie nights\, National Night Out can look different in every neighborhood. But the spirit of the event remains the same: unity\, collaboration\, and connection. \nYou can learn more about the history and mission of National Night Out at the official website: https://natw.org/about/ \n \nHosting Your Own National Night Out Event in San Carlos\nIf you live in San Carlos or the surrounding area\, you’re especially encouraged to get involved this year. The city is making it easier than ever to join the celebration. \nJoin National Night Out by hosting your own event — it could be a cozy front yard gathering\, a larger block party\, or anything in between. No matter how big or small\, your event will contribute to a safer\, more united San Carlos. \nTo ensure your event is part of the official city-wide celebration\, don’t forget to register your block party by visiting:👉 cityofsancarlos.org/nno \nBy registering\, you’ll not only help the city plan and coordinate visits from local law enforcement\, but you’ll also ensure that your neighbors feel connected to the larger network of National Night Out events happening citywide. \nAnd here’s a bonus: Public and semi-private events will receive a visit from San Mateo Sheriff’s Office representatives! That’s right — local deputies will be making their way through San Carlos neighborhoods on August 5th\, stopping by registered gatherings to meet residents\, answer questions\, and share in the community spirit. It’s a great chance for both kids and adults to get to know the people behind the badge. \nWhy It Matters\nIn a world where we often pass by neighbors without more than a wave\, National Night Out reminds us that community still matters. Knowing the people around us — and having strong relationships with local police and emergency services — can make a real difference in our everyday safety and well-being. \nEvents like these not only reduce isolation\, they also empower neighborhoods to be proactive about crime prevention. When neighbors know each other\, they are more likely to look out for suspicious activity\, report concerns\, and lend a hand when someone’s in need. \nPolice departments\, like the San Mateo Sheriff’s Office\, also benefit from the opportunity to connect with residents outside of emergency situations. It builds mutual respect\, improves communication\, and allows officers to better understand the needs of the communities they serve. \nGet Involved\nWhether you’re ready to host a full-scale party or just want to attend an event near you\, there’s a place for everyone in this annual celebration. \nHere’s how to participate: \n\nHost an event: Gather your neighbors and start planning. You could do a potluck\, lawn games\, a chalk art contest\, or even an outdoor movie screening.\nRegister your event: Go to cityofsancarlos.org/nno and sign up so the city and San Mateo Sheriff’s Office can include your block in their plans.\nSpread the word: Use your neighborhood email list\, group chat\, or social media to invite others and promote your event.\nDecorate your space: Add festive lights\, banners\, or signs to make your gathering fun and welcoming.\nConnect: Most importantly\, use this time to engage with your neighbors and the officers who serve your community.\n\nSee You on August 5th!\nSo mark your calendars — Tuesday\, August 5\, 2025 is your chance to be part of something big. National Night Out brings communities together in a powerful way\, reminding us that we’re all in this together. \nIn San Carlos and beyond\, this night is more than just a party — it’s a step toward building safer\, more connected neighborhoods for everyone. Whether you’re firing up the grill or setting out lawn chairs on the block\, we hope you’ll join us. \nLet’s make this year’s National Night Out the best one yet! \n  \n\nSee other interesting events in San Carlos.
