The Teen Wellness Retreat is a one day event for teens to destress and refresh their mental health and well-being through various workshops and self-care activities. The day will include breakfast\, lunch\, boba\, a resource fair\, raffles\, and giveaways\, all for FREE! For additional information\, and questions\, please contact elicko@cityofsancarlos.org or call (650) 802-4122. \n \nWelcome to Belmont and San Carlos’ first ever Teen Wellness Retreat!\nThe Teen Wellness Retreat is a unglue event that will provide teens with the space to unwind\, rejuvenate\, and prioritize their mental health. In the midst of the challenges and demands of teenage life\, it’s crucial to take a break and invest in your mental health. \nThe retreat offers a blend of workshop sessions\, self-care activities\, self-discovery\, and delicious food to fuel your body throughout the day. Not to mention\, there will be swag and giveaways for you to take home and enjoy! \nWe hope that all attendees leave the event feeling refreshed and confident to take on any challenges thrown their way! \nWe would like to express our gratitude to all the amazing organizations and businesses that have contributed to the planning and execution of this event. No matter what workshop you choose\, they will all be entertaining\, interactive\, and teach you something new! \nWorkshop topics include\, but are not limited to\, mindfulness\, organization\, and self-care. While each workshop is led by a different community organization\, they all have one thing in common: creating a deeper understanding of how to achieve your very own wellness! \n  \nSESSION 1: 9:15 – 10:30 A.M.\nIt’s About Time! (Teen-Led)\nPresented By: San Carlos Youth Advisory Council \nIn this interactive session on time management. teens will explore effective strategies to prioritize tasks\, set realistic goals\, and overcome common challenges in managing their time. Through practical tips. self-care strategies. and engaging discussions\, attendees will gain valuable insights to enhance their productivity and achieve a better balance in their day-to-day life. \n  \nGentle Nutrition for Teens: Considering the Big Picture\nPresented By: Beyond Measure \nThe Registered Dietitians at Beyond Measure\, a size-inclusive team of clinicians based in Redwood City\, will teach you what it means to consider your nutritional needs using flexibility and your body’s knowledge. \n  \nMindfulness with AllCove (Teen-Led)\nPresented By: San Mateo AllCove \nEmbark on a journey of serenity and self-discovery in our Mindfulness Session. Join us for a moment of peace\, guided by our Peer Specialists\, where you can unwind and center yourself. No obligations. just a chance to be present and embrace the calm. Take a break from the hustle and bustle\, and let mindfulness be your guide. \n  \nSmash Your Stress\nPresented By: Belmont Parks & Recreation Staff \nEmbark on a transformative journey of self-discovery and release in our unique stress-smashing activity. Participants will self-reflect to identify what is stressing them out\, what mental health struggles they’ve been having. or any trauma they’ve been working through. Teens will write down what they want to get rid of on a ceramic plate\, then smash it! \n  \nSESSION 2: 11:00 – 11:45 A.M.\nPrioritizing Yourself in the Job Search\nPresented By: Youth Center Staff \nSearching for a job can be a stressful process\, especially if it’s your first time. Come learn how to prepare yourself for finding a job that prioritizes your wellness with San Carlos Parks and Recreation staff! \n  \nWellness and Identity\nPresented By: San Mateo County Pride Center \nIn this interactive workshop youth will be able to explore. understand\, and more clearly define their own identities and sense of self. Youth will also be able to share with and learn from others to develop an understanding of how Identity and Community can impact wellness. The workshop aims to get youth doing as much as learning\, and participants will walk away with a self-determined representation of who they are. \n  \nBrush Away the Blues\nPresented By: Belmont Youth Advisory Committee \nTeens will use art therapy as an outlet for any emotions they feel they want to express in art. The activity will allow them to use their creative energy in a calming outdoor environment with peers. \n  \nTeens Supporting Teens: Healthy Social Media Engagement\nPresented By: Good for MEdia \n#GFM is a peer-mentoring campaign dedicated to uplifting youth wisdom and experiences around social media engagement and the impacts it can have on youth mental health. In this workshop co-facilitated by our youth advisors\, we’ll explore the importance in centering youth voice in this work\, have discussions around the effect of social media on our daily lives\, share youth-created resources\, and walk away with strategies to mindfully engage with these platforms. \n  \nSESSION 3: 12:45 – 1:30 A.M.\n\nRadiant Realities: Nurturing Body Positivity Amidst Media Pressures and ED Awareness\nPresented By: Eating Disorders Resource Center \nThis is an engaging workshop that goes beyond traditional presentations\, actively involving participants in activities addressing media influence on body image. From creating positive affirmations to critiquing photoshopped media\, exploring self-care strategies\, and crafting personalized digital wellness plans\, this interactive session empowers individuals to navigate the complexities of modern body image challenges with resilience and confidence. The workshop also sheds light on eating disorders. connecting them to media impacts while providing guidance to participants to help them recognize signs and seek help. \n  \nSelf-Regulation Strategies During Times of Stress\nPresented By: One Life Counseling \nThis session focuses on imparting practical self-regulation strategies to effectively navigate and cope with stress. Participants will learn mindfulness techniques\, breathing exercises\, and goal-setting methods to enhance emotional well-being and resilience in challenging situations. \n  \nHow to Support a Friend (Teen-Led)\nPresented By: Starvista HAP-Y \nIn this interactive workshop led by StarVista’s Health Ambassador Program Youth (HAP-Y). you will learn ways to support a friend. We’ll present different scenarios. the best ways to provide help\, helpful things to say\, and share resources you can access in the community. \n  \nYoga\nPresented By: Youth Center Staff \nHave you always wanted to try yoga? Well you’re in luck! Stretch\, relax\, and Breathe. Join Youth Center Staff\, with Yoga at the YC. \n\nKeynote Speaker: Ovidillo Vasquez\nOvidilio Vasquez is a National Leadership Keynote Speaker. He went from being a farmboy raised in a poor village in the sugarcane fields of Central America to working for global companies like Apple\, Uber\, Salesforce\, Tesla\, and General Motors. \nDespite being labeled “at-risk\,” Ovi graduated from high school in three short years. He earned his B.A. in Business Management and is a TEDx speaker on Self-Leadership. These four-legged friends are here to provide a safe space for emotional expression\, stress relief\, and the joy of unconditional companionship. Additionally\, for safety purposes\, there will be no come-and-go privilege’s. \n  \nAdditional Information\nTeens will check-in for the event in the San Carlos Youth Center Lobby and will be expected to stay on-site for the duration of the event. For safety purposes\, there will be no come-and-go privileges.
