SUMMARY:San Carlos Library Anniversary: 115 Remarkable Years - Join us For An All-Day Celebration!
DESCRIPTION:A Century (Plus!) of Stories at the San Carlos Library Anniversary\nSan Carlos is turning a page that’s 115 years in the making\, and the San Carlos Library is inviting everyone to join the story. On Thursday\, August 28\, the library celebrates 115 Years of Library History—an all-day\, drop-in celebration packed with memory-making moments\, history you can touch\, and a few fun surprises. If you love books\, local lore\, or simply a great community gathering\, this is your kind of chapter. \nWhat’s Happening\nThis is not a sit-quietly-and-shhh kind of event. The library is opening its archives\, dusting off rarely seen photographs\, and bringing the past to life in approachable\, hands-on ways. You can: \n\nBrowse a pop-up gallery of historic photos tracing San Carlos’ growth and the library’s evolution.\nTry an interactive history matching game! Pair the artifact or photo with the decade and see how your local knowledge stacks up.\nChat with staff and volunteers about the library’s “greatest hits\,” from beloved programs to big building changes.\nTake home a free Centennial tote bag (while supplies last).\n\nThe day is designed for all ages\, so bring the kids\, your neighbor\, or that friend who collects San Carlos trivia like rare baseball cards. This is community history\, told by the community itself. \n  \nIn the photo: The San Carlos Library during a Solar Eclipse. For 115 years\, the San Carlos Library has been more than shelves and spines. It’s been a launchpad for curiosity\, a refuge for readers\, a classroom for lifelong learners\, and a meeting place for ideas. Milestones like this are a chance to look back with pride and look forward with purpose. \nThink about it: the library has greeted generations from the era of telegrams to the age of tablets. It has hosted book clubs and baby storytime\, literacy workshops and tech help\, civic forums and quiet study marathons. It’s where newcomers find their footing and longtime residents reconnect with neighbors. In the “City of Good Living\,” the library is one of the reasons the slogan rings true. \nStep Into the Archive\nThe special exhibit highlights rare photographs and artifacts from the library’s own collection. You’ll see snapshots of the early branch\, the faces who shaped its services\, and the ways the building and the city grew together. Each image is a window into daily life\, a reminder that the library has always kept pace with the needs of the moment—expanding collections\, adding programs\, and opening doors to new technologies. \nThe interactive matching game brings a playful twist to history. Match the object to its era\, then read a bit of context that places it in the bigger San Carlos story. It’s a simple\, friendly way to learn\, and kids pick it up fast. Expect a few “aha!” moments and bragging rights if you nail the trickier decades. \nBring the Family (and Your Questions)\nAll ages are invited\, and the come-and-go format means you can fit the celebration into your day. Librarians and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about San Carlos history\, library resources\, and current programs you might not have discovered yet—digital collections\, creative tools\, events\, and more. If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes\, this is a perfect moment to ask. \nParents\, this is a sneaky-good learning opportunity. Kids get hands-on time with history\, and they’ll leave with new appreciation for a place they already love. Teens can explore research resources that give them a head start on school projects. And everyone gets to see how a public library continues to innovate—without losing that welcoming “pull up a chair” vibe. \n  \nIn the photos: The San Carlos Library during a Solar Eclipse. It’s an easy stroll from Downtown\, with plenty of places to grab coffee or a snack before or after you visit. Since the event runs all day\, you can time your stop around your schedule: morning\, midday\, or late afternoon. \nA Community Built on Sharing\nLibraries are built on a simple idea: we’re better when we share knowledge\, stories\, and space. That ethos has guided San Carlos for 115 years\, and it’s on display throughout this celebration. Come for the photos and the tote bag; leave with a deeper connection to your town and the people who keep it humming. \nEvent Details at a Glance\n\nWhat: 115 Years of Library History (All Ages)\nWhen: Thursday\, August 28\, 2025 (All Day)\nWhere: The Rotunda\, San Carlos Library\, 610 Elm Street\, San Carlos\, CA 94070\nWho: Hosted by San Mateo County Libraries\nCost: Free\nMore Info: Visit smcl.org for the latest details and library resources.\n\n\nAbout San Carlos Library Events\nThe San Carlos Library hosts a lot of interesting regular every month.
